David A. Armstrong

Utah House of Representatives District 17
Kaysville, Fruit Heights, North Farmington

Representing the Constitution Party of Utah
"Honor God, Defend the Family, Restore the Republic"

My platform is simple: I will honor the oath of office to uphold the consitution of the state of Utah and the Constitution of the United States, which is the law of the land. Anything more or less than this is unacceptable, and I will oppose it. I will vote to get the government's hand out of our pockets, it's eyes out of our homes, and its agenda out of our consciences. It is not the responsibility of our government to restribute our wealth or to enforce "charity" to perpetuate a welfare society. We do not need the government to raise our children and dictate their education and socialization. No one on Capital Hill either in Washington or Salt Lake City knows better how to take care of, protect, provide for, and manage my family and my business better than I do for my family and you do for yours. The federal government should exercise only those powers granted to it by the Constitution. Likewise the state government should exercise only its proper constitutional powers. All other powers belong to the people and their communities.

As your elected representative in the Utah House of Representatives from District 17, I will work to limit the role of state government to what is necessary, proper, and appropriate. I will oppose the encroachment of international governing bodies on our federal government, the federal bureaucracies on our state, and the state government on our communities and on us as citizens.

Are you throwing away your vote if you vote for a Constitution Party candidate? If the Republican vote is split in District 17, will we not be letting the Democrats in? Frankly, in my opinion, It doesn't matter which of the major parites wins, because both parties have grown close enough philosophically that we will not be able to tell the difference which party is in the majority.

Do the Republicans really reflect your interest? Republicans and Democrats alike take money from teh same lobbyists. The Republicans voted to make your name and birthdate public record in order to register to vote. They have exposed two key elements of identity theft so they could continue to do voter outreach and campaign funding programs.

If we continue to vote for lesser of two evils, we still get evil. By voting for me, you are sending a message to the Republicans that they need to change. We are a one-party state. Having a single party hold all power is not healthy. Even if a Republican loses a seat because you voted for me, it will not change the balance of power in the legislature. But it will create more debate and may force the powers-to-be to stand up for true principles. The more votes the Constitution Party gets, the more conservative the other parties will have to become.

One person with principles can do a lot. I can be a voice for true principles. I want to help the powers that be think outside the box. I might not be able to pass bills, but I might help to stop some bills. I will work to stop bad laws from passing. I will call people to task and expose issues. I will speak out against lobbies because I will not be beholden to them. I will look at the unintended consequences of bills, not just the intended purpose.

I will be your voice and your heart in the legislature. Together, we can make a difference.
