My heartfelt thanks to the brave souls who cast their vote on November 4 for a third-party candidate. Your vote was note wasted. Across the state, many Constitution Party candidates fared well at the polls. Those none won an office, both major parties heard a message - there is a growing group of citizens who are thinking for themselves and choosing principles over politics. There is still much to do. The fight is a long way from over. We must be diligent and watchful. We must hold our elected representatives accountable to represent ALL the people, not just those who voted the straight party ticket.

My platform is simple: I will honor the oath of office to uphold the constitution of the state of Utah and the Constitution of the United States, which is the law of the land. Anything more or less than this is unacceptable, and I will oppose it. I will vote to get the government's hand out of our pockets, its eyes out of our homes, and its agenda out of our consciences. It is not the responsibility of our government to forcibly redistribute our wealth or to enforce "charity" to perpetuate a welfare society. We do not need the government to raise our children and dictate their education and socialization. No one on Capitol Hill either in Washington or Salt Lake City knows better how to take care of, protect, provide for, and manage my family and my business better than I do for my family and better than you do for yours. The federal government should exercise only those powers granted to it by the Constitution. Likewise the state government should exercise only its proper constitutional powers. All other powers belong to the people and their communities.

As your elected representative in the Utah House of Representatives from District 17, I will work to limit the role of state government to what is necessary, proper, and appropriate. I will oppose the encroachment of international governing bodies on our federal government, the federal bureaucracies on our state, and the state government on our communities and on us as citizens.

Are you throwing away your vote if you vote for a Constitution Party candidate? If the Republican vote splits in District 17, will we not be letting the Democrats in? The bottom line is that it doesn't matter which of the major parties wins, because both parties have grown so similar that there is now hardly any difference at all.

Do the Republicans really reflect your interests? Republicans and Democrats alike take money and gifts from the same lobbyists, much of which is not even reportable. The Republicans voted to make your name and birth date public record in order for you to register to vote. They have exposed two key elements of identity theft so they can continue to do voter outreach and campaign fund-raising programs to keep themselves in power.

If we continue to vote for the lesser of two evils, we still get evil. By voting for a Constitution Party Candidate, you are sending a message to the Republicans and the Democrats that they need to stop over-taxing us, over-regulating us, and destroying our liberties. The more votes the Constitution Party gets, the more conservative and responsible the other parties will have to become.

One person with principles can do a lot. I will be a voice for correct principles. I will support good bills, and I will do all I can to expose and stop bad bills. I will not accept gifts from lobbyists so that I will not be beholden to them. I will look at the unintended consequences of bills, not just the intended purpose.

I will be your voice and your heart in the legislature. Together, we can make a difference.
